Crisco and Sparkles attempt #1

I have been somewhat covetous of the portraits people have made of their beloved pets with the pets dressed in past fashions. Upon voicing my desires I have been told “but you can make that.” So…

This is far from a painting or original art. I am brainstorming ideas and playing around with some photos. There could be more to come, you never know. Here is a portrait of Crisco and Sparkles from around 1900. I miss them terribly.

Introducing kittens

I was not very into sharing when my beloved Crisco and Sparkles passed on last year. After a kitty-less Christmas and many months of coming home to an empty house, Richard and I have adopted kittens (months ago now). I thought it was high time to formally introduce them. This is Gorgon and Spasmo.

They’ve got some growing and learning left to do, Spasmo only just figured out she could push unlatched doors open, but they have given us hints at what crazy characters they are going to be. I’m sure they will begin to crop up in all sorts of drawings after the co-dependency training is complete.

Crisco and Sparkles will live on in their comic incarnations:

Sparkles doesn't like looking at the camera
Sparkles doesn’t like looking at the camera

While I was trying to snap a shot of her angry face she kept looking away. I ended with with all these pictures and no good one. boo.  I suppose it just makes the good pictures of her more amazing:

CriscoCatCrisco likes the camera, but sometimes gets too close.  He was too lazy to investigate this time and I ended up with a cover for Cat Fanciers magazine or something.  Isn’t he handsome?

I have tried to keep the cat love to a minimum, maybe in some vain attempt to resist the librarian trend.  Seriously, everyone (bold generalized statement) in my library is obsessed with cats.  Want a topic to break the ice at a staff party:  Cats.  But who am I kidding?  Why am I resisting?

I have the coolest cats ever!

the amazing re-sizable kitty.  which if you eat enough of, you will not be re-sizable, you will be very large.  Crisco that is.  don’t eat it straight.  that’s not what I meant.  and don’t eat my cat either.  that’s not what I meant.

Ever wonder what your pets would look like if they were human, or almost human (in Baby’s case).

Another night I was at a loss for what to draw (but feeling compelled to draw something).  This time I was on the phone to my dad who suggested dogs and lawn mowers – with heavy references to his own dogs.  His doberman does not have a tail.  Don’t know what I was thinking.
