Why people like Sasquatch – Calamityware

Why people like Sasquatch – Calamityware published on No Comments on Why people like Sasquatch – Calamityware

Sasquatch is almost everyone’s favorite cryptozoological marvel. That’s because he possesses qualities other elusive creatures cannot match. Let’s look at three of them. 1. All natural. Sasquatch is the original nature boy. He lives in the wild and eats nuts and berries (mostly). He has resisted the attractions of urban living. You never see him in restaurants. Fashion holds no appeal for Sasquatch. Not even the practical utility of t-shirts have seduced the hairy beast. His commitment to natural living is an example and an inspiration to all of us who feel that nature has been pushed too far from the center of

What's NewRandall Rosenthal is possessed of a spirit.  He must be, because he made this box.  This box, filled with money, is a solid block of wood.  He’s got some process steps on his website to help you believe.

And this isn’t the only amazing thing he makes out of solid wood.  Check out:  What’s New.

John McWhorter and the Grumpy Grammarian

I feel free.  John McWhorter has just released my mind from an ingrained belief that I couldn’t end a sentence with a preposition in his essay: Grumpy Grammarian: The Dangling Preposition Myth | New Republic..  You who were schooled around the time I was, when cursive was still graded for its style and clarity, will understand.  Certain rules of grammar were pounded into me.

Later, during my studies of great literature, I was able to let go of some elements of proper grammar for the purpose of conveying feeling and character.  If I don’t need it when I am speaking with others in life then neither do the folks I write about.  I break tons of rules while writing fiction, but when writing professional articles and organizational reports, that last edit for acceptable language always leaves me with dangling prepositions to clean up.  Now, I will try not to worry so much about them.

Oh, and John McWhorter is a fabulous master of language who talks about the idiosyncrasies and ridiculousness of language and people’s reaction to it.  If you love to read like masters dissect their art as much as I do, and you have not heard of him, go go and read.

Ask A Slave: A Comedy Web Series

Ask A Slave: A Comedy Web Series starring Azie Dungey that puts all of the “most interesting, and somewhat infuriating encounters” she had while portraying a slave in historical sites on the East Coast.   While it is hilarious in a laugh-at-the-stupid-tourist kinda way, it’s also really sad that real questions inspired the show.  It makes me embarrassed for my species.

The regulator in our living room is stopped right now.  The wall across from the TV was not a good place for a chiming clock in the apartment of movie watchers.  But gee have I loved time pieces.  And I have fallen in love with Klockwerks by Roger Wood.  I mean, look at them.  Aren’t they beautiful?

But there is really good content therein.  I don’t usually end up in situations where I might be beat up or anything else …now that I think about it – ‘or anything else’ has happened to me.  I thought I was just lucky.  Ok, so the technique of giving calm but nonsensical responses that Derren Brown describes in  Derren Brown’s Guide to overcoming Awkward Situations – Entertainment – ShortList Magazine wouldn’t necessarily also have come in handy when I was being followed around the record store I worked in by a guy who repeatedly told me he liked my shape, and who continued on with other lewd comments and offers to take me home after my shift.  That was a long time ago.  But, Derren Brown’s advice on other situations is good to have in your head just in case.  To sum up:  awesome article, and hilarious in its description of the technique.

There is a group of fabulous women who investigate hauntings and paranormal occurrences in Florida and beyond.  They are:  FPI – Female Paranormal Investigators.  How do I know they are fabulous?  Because one lady is a very good friend of mine, and sometimes I listen in awe and vicarious pleasure to her stories of her jobs with the FPI.  Shout out!

Hello, I was jumping around on the internets and read this fabulous ‘fat acceptance’ article by Marianne Kirby at xoJane.  I quote ‘fat acceptance’ ’cause I never heard of such a movement before.  I just thought it was about liking yourself in opposition to everything that people say to you.  But fat is regarded crazy ill in this country, so I’m glad there are people out there like Marianne Kirby to write about it in a touching, elegant, and witty fashion.  I am going to go read her book and think about how I would really love to know her better.  She seems awesome!  She does NaNoWriMo!

Okay, I was crazy excited about  Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong when there was only page one.  Then, apparently I got distracted (and did not subscribe to the rss feed) and forgot to read it.  What a dunce am I?  Anyway, Faith Erin Hicks is still the bomb and in combination with Prudence Shen is making another fabulous comic!  Fabulous!
