that could live up to it that wasn&#8217;t about the three musketeers.\u00a0 <em>The Scarlet Pimpernel<\/em> came to my rescue then, and thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/ebooks\/search\/?query=orczy&amp;go=Go\">project Gutenberg,<\/a> I am now buried in sequels.\u00a0 You could say, I am making it a new obsession.<\/p>\n<p>Books in order of publication:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>The Scarlet Pimpernel (1903)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>I will Repay (1906)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Elusive Pimpernel (1908)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Eldorado (1913)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Laughing Cavalier (1914)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Lord Tony&#8217;s Wife (1917)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The First Sir Percy (1921)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Triumph of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1922)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Pimpernel and Rosemary (1924)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Sir Percy Hits Back (1927)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>A Child of the Revolution (1932)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Way of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1933)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Scarlet Pimpernel Looks at the World (1933)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Sir Percy Leads the Band (1936)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Mam&#8217;zelle Guillotine (1940)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The novels and other collections of short stories were not typical sequels.\u00a0 They jumped about in time, each a piece of the French revolutionary world that the Baroness had created.\u00a0 Their huge popularity at the time drove her production as much as it inspired movie versions:<\/p>\n<p>Movies:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0025748\/\">1943 movie with Leslie Howard<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0030675\/\">1938 sequel with Barry Barnes<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0042432\/\">Another sequel in 1950 starring David Niven<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0034027\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\">1940 Pimpernel Smith starring Leslie Howard<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0051310\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_6\">The Scarlet Pimpernel, 1955 (starring Marius Goring)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0060330\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_5\">1966 Carry on Pimpernel<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0084637\/\">1982 movie with Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0182408\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_4\">1999 miniseries with Richard Grant<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkhorizons.com\/news\/18473\">2010 rumblings of Michael Armstrong directing a new version with Neil Jackson.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>But there is no comic.\u00a0 Oh, there were advertisements of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/dougkissock.wix.com\/pimpernel-art-1\">The Pimpernel: An Adaptation Of The Scarlet Pimpernel by Doug Kissock,<\/a> <\/em>but it doesn&#8217;t seem to have gone anywhere, much like the 2010 movie plans of Michael Armstrong.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I read The Scarlet Pimpernel (Wikipedia) by Baroness Orczy (Wikipedia) right after reading the Count of Monte Cristo.
